London’s Southbank Centre has inaugurated a festival to run throughout 2013 called “The Rest Is Noise,” a series of concerts and events that will present a variety of twentieth-century classical music. (The title and concept come from Alex Ross’s award-winning book.) Weill takes his rightful place within the panoply of what we used to call “modern” music–three programs will include his works. The first will be devoted entirely to concert performances of the complete Dreigroschenoper in Paris and London. Vladimir Jurowski will conduct the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus; soloists include Mark Padmore (Macheath), Sir John Tomlinson (Mr Peachum), Allison Bell (Polly), and Meow Meow (Jenny).
