As part of its 20th Century Classics series, EMI has reissued a budget set of Weill’s First and Second Symphonies (conducted by Gary Bertini) and Violin Concerto (soloist Frank Peter Zimmermann, conducted by Mariss Jansons) along with the complete album, Kurt Weill on Broadway featuring Thomas Hampson, Elizabeth Futral, et al., conducted by John McGlinn. Bertini was the first to record both Weill symphonies (1968) and an early champion of Weill’s work, while the other recordings date from the 1990’s. Kurt Weill on Broadway features extensive selections from Firebrand of Florence and Love Life and songs from other shows.
