French company Opéra éclaté, which performed Weill’s Der Silbersee and Die Dreigroschenoper in 2003-04, now takes on an American work, Lost in the Stars. After several festival dates in July and August, the production will tour France during the fall and winter. Here is a rare opportunity for French audiences to see Weill’s last work, adapted from Alan Paton’s Cry, the Beloved Country. Weill and Maxwell Anderson’s dramatization of the novel, set in South Africa, commented on race relations in the United States on the eve of the civil rights movement.
