Kurt Weill’s first stage work, Zaubernacht (Magical Night), was composed in 1922 while he was still a student. For many years, the only source for the music was Weill’s condensed score for piano with instrumental indications, but a complete set of orchestral parts was discovered at Yale University in 2005, and the score was reconstructed from the parts by the team of Elmar Juchem and Andrew Kuster for the Kurt Weill Edition.

Janai Brugger

After a successful month-long run at the Royal Opera House in London in December 2011, the new edition of the work celebrates its U.S. premiere at the Ravinia Festival on 19 July. Janai Brugger (bottom right) will be the soprano soloist, and members of the Chicago Symphony will be conducted by James Conlon (top right).
