Landestheater Linz will stage an unprecedented pairing of two Weill dance works: his first work for the stage, Zaubernacht (1922); and the well-known ballet chanté, Die sieben Todsünden (1933). Time will tell whether this thought-provoking combination will become a standard Weill ballet evening.

The score of Zaubernacht, unknown in its original form for eighty years, was recently reconstructed for the Kurt Weill Edition and is moving quickly into a secure position in the repertory, with recent produtions at the Royal Opera House and the Ravinia Festival. Die sieben Todsünden premiered in 1933 with choreography by Balanchine and has been a repertory staple among dance companies for decades. In Linz, conductor Dennis Russell Davies (top right) and singer Marianne Faithfull (bottom right) will team up once again to perform the work in English.
