Der Silbersee has enjoyed a string of notable revival productions in recent years. January 2023 saw yet another success, this time produced by Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar. Below are a group of representative photos, along with press appreciations of conductor Friedrich Praetorius and director Andrea Moses.

Conductor Friedrich Praetorius has an elegant touch for Kurt Weill. He develops uncommon Weill sounds with the Staatskapelle Weimar. Rarely do you hear the wind solos and vocals so beautifully layered, sometimes with a dash of spicy perfume and so completely without the smell of the gutter. This allows the music to escape the heaviness of conventional interpretations.

Andrea Moses has transferred this sensational social drama of the 1930s by the famous authors Kaiser and Weill—who were soon thereafter banned by the Nazis—to our day, and put an anti-capitalist eco-flame on top… She organizes all of this on three levels (stage designer Jan Pappelbaum): on the stage, on a footbridge spanning the full width of the stage, and on the screen with video sequences that partly carry the action and are cleverly shot al fresco (film sequences by Sarah Derendinger).
