Patti LuPone and Far Away Places CD

Last fall, Patti LuPone made a splash in New York and Philadelphia with performances of her popular song program, “Far Away Places,” at Carnegie Hall and Prince Music Theater, respectively. Accompanied by pianist and music director Joseph Thalken, she brought the program to San Diego on Friday, 31 January. She returns to the Southwest for several gigs in Nevada, Arizona, and California in late March and early April: Thursday, 20 March in Las Vegas; Friday, 21 March in Scottsdale; Saturday, 22 March in Costa Mesa; and Thursday and Friday, 3-4 April in Palm Desert. “Far Away Places” features four Weill songs: “Bilbao Song,” “Ah, the Sea Is Blue” (Sailors’ Tango), “Pirate Jenny,” and “September Song.” LuPone debuted the program at 54 Below in New York back in 2012, and it has proved quite successful. A CD recording from those original performances is available for those who can’t make the live show.
