Network: PBS (Great Performances)
First Broadcast: 1 January 2013, 9:30 p.m. (check local listings for further broadcasts)

Following up on the six-part documentary, Broadway: The American Musical (2004), director Michael Kantor has made a 90-minute film focusing on Jewish contributions to the art and history of Broadway. Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy will air for the first time on Great Performances, 1 January 2013. According to the producer’s web site, “The film is the first of its kind to examine the phenomenon that, over the fifty-year period of its development, the songs of the Broadway musical were created almost exclusively by Jewish Americans.” It will be narrated by Joel Grey and feature appearances by Broadway luminaries past and present, with plenty of clips from interviews and performances. Harold Prince and Maury Yeston will comment on Weill’s place in Broadway history.
